Magic Ring

This is to be a crochet related post. Apologies to anyone who thought it was to be something more exciting!

So, today I showed a few ladies at a home-ed group we go to how to make granny-squares.  It is so satisfying to watch a someone learn the first basic stitches, then whip up a granny square, and then go on to teach someone else. You don't get that with knitting...

I thought I would post up the instructions to make a 'magic ring', a brilliant way to start to crochet in the round or ...um...square.
yarntomato (great name hey?) over on crochetme.com lays it out so clearly here. She also shows the alternative just in case the magic ring doesn't float your boat.
I am just about to dig out my big bag of jersey scraps, old T-shirts etc, and whip me up one of these beauties-
Haven't yet found a pattern, though my friend has tried the one in this book. It looks OK so far but I think you have to be really consistant with the weight and width of you fabric stips. I'll let you know how it goes.... My problem is that I can't follow a pattern due to the fact that I totally glaze over at the first line of something like this...

Sorry. Did I lose you? Yes, as I was saying. I don't do patterns. I do have a lot of half finished projects that have started to go wonky and have been abandonded.  Hopefully this wont be one of those. I will let you know how I go.....
